This story tells the life of Aroon through childhood to adulthood, as a privileged daughter living in upper class Irish society during the 1920s. But I then re-read her introduction again after I’d finished the story and I found it so relatable, so if you do have this copy I’d personally recommend reading the introduction afterwards.Īny who… onto the actual story. Now, I must have a little whinge at the start of this review because whilst I loved Maggie’s introduction, her detailed analysis of Keane’s writing style and the plot gave away quite a lot of spoilers… and I found that quite frustrating. In all honesty, I had never heard of this book and I picked it up more because Maggie O’Farrell had done the introduction… and that was all I needed to know to grab it!

I really hate being such a harsh critic, especially on indie authors, because I admire, respect and appreciate the balls they have getting their stuff out there. Just get over it already, let's get on with your destiny. You could've made a drinking game out of how many times Caleb told Maggie he loved her and she said it back, how many times he just wants to see her happy and keep her safe, how many bleedin' times this girl is SORRY for all the trouble she "caused", ugh!!! Like a mouse could fart in the room and she's busting out with the tears. In addition to this, the characters, whom I really liked in Significance were annoying the everloving shit outta me!! Gahd sakes. This was almost reminiscent of Charlaine Harris' last Sookie book minus the checking of the emails. I was skippin pages like my life depended on it. It was dead in the water or overstuffed with filler scenes that didn't add to the momentum of the plot. Actually, it was uber everything - the pacing was painful with the relationship and on the action front. But then.I started reading Accordance.Īnd, contrary to the many 5 star reviews, which btw I'm still trying to figure out, this one was uber slow. After the first novel I was into the story, a little more on the YA side for me but still I was intrigued by the world of Aces and was loving Caleb. This novel was both gritty and gripping, shedding light on the criminal practices and organisations that make up the neon slums of one of the fastest-growing gambling cities in the world. After a planned jewel heist in the South China Sea goes deadly wrong, Jack is called up by job organiser, old collaborator and long-time friend Angela to fly out to Macau and unravel the conspiracy they’ve found themselves wrapped up in. All you really need to know is that protagonist Jack White is a Ghostman – a man who can make anything disappear, including himself if the situation calls for it. From its exotic setting among the underworlds of Macau and Hong Kong to its unrelenting action sequences, Vanishing Games by Roger Hobbs is a breath of fresh air amongst the books that usually make up my collection.Īlthough Vanishing Games is the follow-up to Hobbs’ 2013 debut Ghostman, it’s really not difficult to jump into the world of this criminal mastermind without any previous knowledge of the series. Never since out of print, the novel has been translated into every conceivable language and continues to feed our imaginations by being repeatedly illustrated, imitated, adapted. Secretary Clinton and President Obama had to decide how to repair fractured alliances, wind down two wars, and address a global financial crisis. Our choices and how we handle them shape the people we become." In the aftermath of her 2008 presidential run, she expected to return to representing New York in the United States Senate.
